Delphi Expands Engineering Capabilities at Brighton Technical Center
TROY, Mich., Jan. 13 -- Delphi Automotive Systems
has added 30 engineers at its Brighton (Mich.) Technical Center in the past
six months, further expanding its chassis engineering capabilities at the
site.
Delphi now has 400 engineers at Brighton, up from 250 when the facility
opened in January 1998.
"This continued growth is a product of Delphi's success in the
marketplace," said Keith Deyer, chief engineer, Delphi North American systems
engineering at the Brighton Tech Center. "We're extremely busy with a number
of projects, not only for North American original equipment manufacturers, but
for European and Asian OEMs, as well."
Major high-tech products being developed at Brighton include:

    * Anti-lock braking systems (ABS), which helps prevent wheels from
locking by pulsing the brakes several times a second.
    * Vehicle stability control, which combines features of ABS and traction
control systems with smart sensors and engine management controls to
selectively reduce engine speed and apply brakes to one or more corners of the
vehicle. Delphi markets the technology under the Traxxar(TM) brand name.
    * Adaptive cruise control, combining forward-looking radar with cruise
control to judge distance to the vehicle ahead, providing a warning to the
driver and reducing the vehicle's speed.
    * Next-generation Unified Chassis Control, which combines many of the
Delphi-developed technologies into an interactive "smart vehicle."

The Delphi Brighton Technical Center includes offices and testing
facilities in a two-story, 178,000-square-foot building. The current facility
covers 20 acres, with an additional 73 acres available at the site for future
expansion.
"As we continue to grow our business, our site in Brighton will give us
the ability to expand to support our customers worldwide," Deyer said.
Delphi Automotive Systems, with headquarters in Troy, Mich., USA, is a
world leader in automotive component and systems technology. Delphi's three
