The Timken Company and Steelworkers Union Reach New AgreementCANTON, Ohio, Jan. 12 -- The Timken Company and the United Steelworkers of America, AFL-CIO have reached a new, five-year labor agreement. (Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/19991012/TKRLOGO ) Members of the United Steelworkers of America voted Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday to ratify the new contract, which will become effective in September 2000. However, certain provisions of the new contract will become effective earlier than September. The new contract extends through September 26, 2005. "This five-year agreement benefits both the company and our associates, and it will serve to ensure that our customers will be able to rely on The Timken Company for a continued stream of value-added products to meet their needs," said Michael L. Johnson, Timken vice president - communications. This contract is the third consecutive early agreement reached by the company and the union. The previous agreement was set to expire in September 2000. Early agreements also were concluded in 1993 and 1997.
