Hayes Lemmerz Teams with GM on Precept Technology Demonstration VehicleNORTHVILLE, Mich., Jan. 12 -- Hayes Lemmerz International, Inc. , one of the world's leading suppliers of wheels, brakes, suspension, structural and other lightweight components to the automotive and commercial highway markets, announced today that its fabricated aluminum wheels are featured on the General Motors Precept Technology Demonstration Vehicle. This aerodynamic five-passenger sedan was revealed to the press yesterday at the 2000 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. In order to meet the Program's stringent fuel efficiency requirements, the wrought-aluminum road wheels each weighed only 3.8kg, distinguishing them as the world's lightest 16-inch wheels. The manufacturing of fabricated aluminum wheels is the latest generation of technology developed by Hayes Lemmerz, which provides for a less expensive, lighter weight vehicle. The Precept evolved as a result of GM's involvement in the Partnership for a New Generation of Vehicles (PNGV) program. PNGV is a collaboration among the domestic automakers, suppliers, and the federal government with specific aims of lower emissions and up to three times the fuel efficiency of conventional cars without compromising safety, performance, affordability or utility. Hayes Lemmerz International, Inc. is one of the world's leading global suppliers of automotive and commercial highway wheels, brakes, suspension, structural and other lightweight components. The Company has annual sales of close to $2.3 billion with 43 plants, 8 joint venture facilities and over 15,000 employees worldwide.
