Delphi Automotive Systems Adopts EAI Solutions
Leading Auto Supplier Implements VisProcess(R) for Simultaneous Engineering

    AMES, Iowa, Jan. 12 --
Engineering Animation, Inc. , today announced that Delphi
Automotive Systems has adopted VisProcess, formerly known as
ERGOPlan(TM) and now part of EAI's Open Virtual Factory(TM), for use in
product and production planning in its European operations. VisProcess has
been implemented in Delphi's European technical centers and will be used in
manufacturing sites throughout Europe to reduce time-to-market for new
products.
VisProcess enables Delphi to simultaneously depict their comprehensive
digital models for production and process planning in a single, integrated
visual environment called the Integrated Process Database (IPD). The IPD
allows for simultaneous engineering by all team members, by making all data
stored universally accessible for viewing. The IPD holds the complete history
of project data for reference throughout production planning.
"A multitude of enterprise data can be stored in the IPD, such as
investments, wages, material costs and quality management data," said Achim
von der Muhlen, Delphi program manager in Wuppertal, Germany. "This is
beneficial for sales, because the expected costs are known, different variants
can be calculated and a comprehensive catalogue of detailed and documented
information is available."
In addition, team members, regardless of location, can utilize VisProcess'
link between product data and manufacturing data. Using digital
mockup/digital manufacturing capabilities, team members can see how product
design changes affect manufacturing processes, resource requirements and the
factory design. By moving the manufacturing process design further up into
product development, VisProcess makes Delphi more responsive to design
changes, which results in shorter overall product development time and reduced
development cost and time-to-market.
"Delphi's adoption of VisProcess reflects the growing trend in
manufacturing toward simultaneous engineering. VisProcess provides the
visualization to make this a reality," said Raimund Menges, EAI's vice
president and general manager of European operations. "Our solutions improve
the quality of data planning by creating a seamless flow of information into
one visual environment. Improved production and process planning leads to
shorter time-to-market and better quality products."
