Thrifty Car Rental's Neighbors Together(R) Program Smashes Through Its Goal And Raises $134,000 for Local Children's Charities
TULSA, Okla., Jan. 11 -- Thrifty Car Rental, through its
national Neighbors Together(R) program, announced today that it raised a total
of $134,036 for local children's charities across the U.S. during
November 1999.
More than 300 Thrifty Car Rental franchise locations donated at least
fifty cents per car rental with proceeds given directly to the local
children's non-profit organization of their choice. Many locations
supplemented with other fundraisers such as car washes, golf tournaments and
bake sales. In addition to local contributions, Thrifty's corporate
headquarters donated $27,292 to be divided among the local charities based on
fundraising levels.
At the conclusion of its fifth year, the Thrifty Car Rental Neighbors
Together program has raised more than $434,000 for children's charities across
the United States.
"This year we set our goal to raise $70,000 among our 300 participating
locations," said Don Himelfarb, President and CEO of Thrifty. Our network of
franchise owners literally blew that number out of the water and raised more
than $100,000. The dollars our locations raised will benefit children in at
least 70 communities. That's something our entire company can take pride in.
It was a good year for our company in 1999, and I think that fact is reflected
in the generosity of our locally-owned and operated locations."
Children's charities that benefited this year range from Camp Tall Turf,
in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Boy Scouts of America in St. Ann, Missouri, to
Special Olympics of Northern California in San Francisco.
Some participating locations held additional fundraisers on behalf of
their charities. They include:

-- Houston, Texas - Franchise owners Don and Ken Uhle partnered with Kids
and Cops, a local charity that promotes safety and introduces children
to police officers through its " Officer Trading Card" program.
-- Nashville, Tennessee - Always a participant, Don Burgner's locations
donated the use of a pickup truck for one year to St. Luke's Community
       House.
-- Cincinnati, Ohio - Dan Steffensen, a Thrifty Team Owner, sponsored a
golf tournament for its charity, the Stepping Stones Center.
-- Milwaukee, Wisconsin - Kevin O'Callaghan's locations held a bake sale
and car wash to raise additional money for Big Brothers/Big Sisters.
