Collins & Aikman Announces European Facility ClosingTROY, Mich., Jan. 11 -- Collins & Aikman Corporation today announced that it has entered into negotiations with the local labor unions regarding closing the Company's Vastra Frolunda, Sweden plant. Production at Vastra Frolunda is planned to be discontinued by this September and will then be moved to other Collins & Aikman facilities throughout Europe. The facility closure is part of the Company's previously announced corporate restructuring program. The decision will affect approximately 150 employees. A small number of supervisory and administrative employees will be assigned to various other Company facilities in Europe. In conjunction with these actions, and in order to ensure seamless customer service, the Company will be establishing a new logistics, sales and program management office in the Gotenburg, Sweden area.
