Detroit Diesel Announces Record Engine ProductionDETROIT, Jan. 11 -- During the North American International Auto Show, Detroit Diesel Corporation (DDC) announced record engine production for calendar year 1999. "1999 was DDC's best year ever, with total production exceeding 165,000 engines," according to Charles (Chip) McClure, President and CEO of Detroit Diesel. "This level of production demonstrates DDC's ability to meet high volume requirements, and our production capability on three continents exhibits our global presence. We built over 100,000 engines at our Redford, Michigan facility and over 60,000 units at our automotive operations in Italy and Brazil. We decided to announce this record at the International Auto Show to underscore the significance of our automotive diesel engine line, which accounts for approximately one-third of our total production. We expect the automotive portion of our business to continue to grow as we now have a full line of automotive diesels, including in-line and V6 models, from 1.5 to 4.0 liters. Included in the line up are our new DELTA and VECTER engines. The DELTA was just recognized by SAE's Automotive Engineering magazine as one of the top technologies of 1999. Compact and lightweight, these engines are designed for passenger cars, sport utility vehicles and pickup trucks for the North American, European and Asian markets."
