FieldWorks Awarded Technology Contracts With Two California Police Departments
Company Will Standardize 79 Squad Cars With Mobile Data Server(TM)

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., Jan. 10 --
FieldWorks Inc. , a leading solution provider and computer
manufacturer for demanding field applications, today announced it was selected
by two California police departments -- Palm Springs and Redondo Beach -- to
equip their squad car fleets with the FieldWorks Series 2000 Mobile Data
Server.
The FieldWorks 2000 Mobile Data Server is an on-board computer and
communications system designed around a vehicle. It converts the cockpit of a
squad car into an efficient command center as well as a comfortable and
productive office environment.
"Law enforcement officials rely on technology to enhance their field
operations," said FieldWorks President and CEO Dave Mell. "We took a
customer-oriented approach with the Mobile Data Server -- incorporating
greater functionality, performance, reliability and ease of use --and it's
proving popular with progressive-minded police departments."
Across the country, FieldWorks customers have reported improved work flow,
reduced errors, greater access to voice channels and overall better service to
their communities with the installation of the Mobile Data Server in their
squad cars.
"Although another company met our proposal requirements at a lower cost,
FieldWorks provided the best value for our police department based on its
supplemental features, design, engineering, expansion capability, experience,
anticipated life expectancy and customer references," said Lieutenant Joe
Leonardi of the Redondo Beach Police Department.
Like all FieldWorks solutions, the Series 2000 Mobile Data Server is built
to withstand the most rugged environments -- from the heat of the desert to
the cold of Antarctica. It also meets military specifications for vibration,
shock and moisture.
"Screen visibility in bright sunlight and darkness, backlit keyboards,
airbag compliance and high temperature tolerance were important considerations
in our search," said Palm Springs Police Department Commander Mike McCracken.
"FieldWorks met every specification to our satisfaction."
The Mobile Data Server is sold through the company's worldwide network of
systems integrators and authorized dealers. For the nearest representative,
