More Than 2 Million Ohio Drivers May Qualify for Additional Insurance Discounts

COLUMBUS, Ohio--Jan. 10, 2000--According to research by Farmers Insurance Group, Ohio has more one-ticket drivers per capita than any other state.
But beginning Jan. 1, 2000, Farmers is expanding its preferred discount, a discount for drivers with one minor citation, so that even more customers will qualify. Farmers, the nation's third-largest auto and home insurer, will also offer several other new discounts to Ohio drivers in the New Year.
"We've found that customers who have one minor ticket do not necessarily deserve a significantly higher rate than those who don't," said Annette Thompson, Farmers' state executive director in Ohio. "We want to make sure their rates reflect their risk."
In addition to the one-ticket discount, an "ultra" preferred discount will be available, which will bring premiums down 5 percent for the most responsible adult drivers. In all, nearly half of Farmers' current customers and more than 2.3 million Ohio drivers may qualify for the company's most competitive rates.
Farmers is able to expand these discounts by more finely segmenting their rating structure to offer many more discount levels to their customers in Ohio.
"Allowing more rating flexibility creates an atmosphere in which each customer pays a more accurate price -- a price that reflects their individual driving characteristics," said Thompson.
Farmers will also offer a prior insurance discount to all customers. This discount had previously been available only to preferred customers.
Manufactured homes account for one-quarter of all new-home starts, and more than 270,000 mobile homes now make up the Ohio real estate market. Farmers will offer a new auto/mobile home discount to customers who own a mobile home and have both their mobile home and auto insured with Farmers.
Several other new discounts will also be available Jan. 1, 2000. Interested consumers should contact a local Farmers agent to see if they qualify for any of the new discounts.
Farmers is the nation's third-largest home and auto insurer. With headquarters in Los Angeles and doing business in 41 states, Farmers provides home, auto, business and life insurance to more than 8 million households through 15,000 agents and district managers.
