STV Awarded Streaming Media Contract by Times Mirror; Project Now Underway Involves Greater Los Angeles Auto ShowLOS ANGELES, Jan. 7 -- STV, a privately held streaming media company, has received a one-year contract from Times Mirror Corporation to provide a full range of Internet streaming media services over the Los Angeles Times' Web site. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. STV's first project is producing three-minute clips every 45 minutes during the Greater Los Angeles Auto Show, which runs from Jan. 6 through Jan. 16 at the downtown Convention Center. These clips are Webcast in near real time at two Web sites, LATimes.com and Cars.com. The clips include new model introductions by Acura, Audi, BMW, Lexus, Mazda, Porsche and Pontiac, as well as concept cars from DaimlerChrysler, Ford Motor, General Motors and Saturn. "We are providing a turnkey package to The Times," said Jan Brzeski, chairman and chief executive of STV. "This includes on-site production work as well as encoding and streaming. This project firmly establishes STV as fully competent to provide streaming media services at conventions and expositions." Steve Lacy, electronic editor-new media at the Los Angeles Times, said the Times is arranging to make the streaming media clips available on demand at the Times' Website. "We see value beyond the run of the show," he said. Lacy said STV was selected to provide streaming media services because of the thoroughness shown by the company in evaluating the Times' needs and because "STV is servicing live sites featuring streaming audio and video content right now." STV Communications, Inc., is known in the marketplace as STV Streaming Media. It was founded in 1994 and is based in Santa Monica.
