Lincoln Town Car Continues Domination of Limousine and Livery Market
Luxury Leader Grabs 85 Percent Market Share

IRVINE, Calif., Jan. 7 -- Lincoln has sold three times more
Town Cars to the limousine and livery industry than any other automotive
company in the United States. For the fifth consecutive year, Lincoln
dominated the limousine and livery industry, commanding an 85 percent market
share.
Lincoln Town Car's supremacy in the limousine and livery industry is
derived from Lincoln's rich heritage as the full-size American luxury sedan.
From its conception in 1981, the Town Car has been a roomier and more
luxurious alternative to other luxury sedans in the segment.
For years, dealers and traditional American Luxury customers have heralded
the Town Car as the full-size luxury sedan with the right blend of luxury,
space and performance with rear-wheel drive and body-on-frame construction.
This dominance continues as Lincoln currently possesses more orders to start
the year than ever, even after one competitor has introduced a new product
into the segment.
"Over the years, Lincoln has dominated the limousine and livery business
by listening to what customers want and responding to their needs," said John
Treter, Lincoln Rental and limo/livery manager. "Today's customer wants a
more spacious and luxurious Town Car. We're meeting these requirements with
both our traditional model and the new long-wheel base Town Car."
One of the strong relationships Lincoln has built over the years is with
Carey International. Lincoln and Carey are well acquainted with one another,
Lincoln as the luxury car leader and Carey as the world's leader in
chauffeured services. Last year, Carey provided Lincoln Town Car and
limousine manufactured chauffeured services to more than 9 million clients
worldwide, and Carey recently entered into a nearly exclusive three-year
agreement for Lincoln products.
"Partnering with a company like Lincoln allows us to further deliver those
limousine and livery needs to our customers," said Vince Wolfington, Carey
president. "The Town Car represents everything we want and expect in a full-
size luxury sedan and more."
In 1999, Lincoln sold 7,478 Town Cars to limousine and livery companies,
compared with 5,328 in 1998.
Lincoln Mercury, based in Irvine, Calif., markets the full line of Lincoln
vehicles. The Lincoln line includes Town Car, Navigator, Continental and LS.
