Ford Poised to Win Annual California Sales Leadership Race For 17th Straight Year!
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 6 -- When the final numbers are in, Ford
Division will have sold more cars and trucks during 1999 than any other
automotive division in the important trend-setting California market.
For the 17th straight year, Ford Division will have captured the annual
sales crown as the combined car and truck sales leader among automotive
divisions in California.
According to registration figures released by R.L. Polk Company, Ford
Division dealers sold 299,607 cars and trucks through October 1999 -- 97,243
more units than second-place Toyota (202,364 units) and 135,673 more than
third-place Chevrolet (163,934 units).
"The popularity of Ford products in this important market is
unmistakable," said Drew Atkinson, Ford Division California regional sales
manager. "The combination of our appealing products, like the best-selling F-
Series truck and sporty Mustang, and our customer service-oriented dealer body
deliver what Californians want.
"We are confident that November and December registrations will again
place Ford Division in the number one spot in California."
"Ford F-Series is again the best-selling vehicle in California, with
registrations up 19 percent over the January-through-October period in 1998.
And Ford Ranger, with registrations of 32,263 for the pertate," he said.
Three of the state's 10 best-selling vehicles are Ford Division products:
F-Series trucks, Explorer and Ranger. Taurus, Mustang and Escort are among
the 10 best-selling cars in the state. F-Series, Explorer, Ranger and
Expedition are among the 10 best-selling trucks.
Mustang registrations of 26,025 for the year through October were up 26
percent, outselling its primary competitor, Chevrolet Camaro, by a margin of
nearly 7-to-1 in the state.
Atkinson noted, "Ford Division in California is off to a phenomenal start
for the 2000 model year with dealers reporting brisk sales of the all-new Ford
Focus and Excursion and redesigned Taurus. We are expecting 2000 to be yet
another record-breaking year with more exciting new products that will arrive
early next year, including the Explorer Sport and Sport Trac, and the new F-
150 SuperCrew."
