Federal-Mogul to Supply Bushings for Hoover DamSOUTHFIELD, Mich., Jan. 6 -- Federal-Mogul Corporation today announced that it will supply bushings and wear plates for the Hoover Dam, a North American historic landmark located between Nevada and Arizona. The value of this U.S. Government contract is expected to top $1.75 million over the next 10 years. "This prestigious project is significant because it demonstrates the technical and manufacturing synergies that can exist within our Uniontown, Ohio, and Mooresville, Indiana, operations," said Michael C. Verwilst, senior vice president, Powertrain Systems. "We have the technical and manufacturing expertise to equip and supply any type of bearing, seal or brake for any turbine application. Our goal is to provide customers with a complete systems-engineered turbine solution, thus achieving economies of scale." Federal-Mogul will supply Hoover Dam with some large-scale products. The bushings are 10 inches in diameter, while the wear pads are over five feet long, together weighing in at more than 45,000 pounds. Federal-Mogul's Uniontown facility specializes in sales and engineering functions, and seeks opportunities for various projects in power generation, as well as steel, compressor, pump, electric motor, gearbox and other general industrial applications. Federal-Mogul Mooresville manufactures heavy wall and large diameter engine bearings. The 120-member team manufactures over 11,000 part numbers for over 250 customers.
