Visteon Technology Enters The Microsoft HomeLAS VEGAS, Jan. 6 -- Microsoft Corp.'s concept of developing a computer connected home on its Redmond, Wash., campus would not be complete without a leading-edge, Windows-powered car in the garage. The Technology of Visteon Automotive Systems combined with Microsoft Windows CE for automotive provides the seamless link between the Home and Car. Visteon began working last fall to outfit a vehicle with the latest in consumer-driven breakthrough technology, including its voice activated, in-vehicle computer system called ICES. Visteon is unveiling this consumer- driven vehicle in the Microsoft show booth at the Consumer Electronics Show and for demonstration in the concept home on the Microsoft Redmond Campus. "We are excited by the opportunity to participate with a company like Microsoft that touches the lives of consumers in so many ways," said Stephen Delaney, vice president, interior and exterior systems. "Consumers are looking for even greater value from their vehicle and the ability to merge home, office and vehicle will greatly improve their quality of life. We believe if people can be more productive while in their vehicle, they will be able to spend more time with their family." "Designing in-car computing solutions for automobiles provides a number of unique challenges to allow for maximum productivity and safety," said Dave Wright, director of business development, Windows CE for Automotive at Microsoft Corp. "The Visteon ICES is a great example of how Microsoft is working with automotive leaders to create innovative computing solutions uniquely suited for the automobile." Visteon ICES provides a fully-integrated, voice-activated, mobile multimedia environment. Powered by a Microsoft Windows CE operating system, Intel(R) Pentium Processor and Visteon Voice Technology, ICES links drivers to their email and the Internet, while also providing a turn-by-turn navigation system. Also featured on the vehicle at the Microsoft booth is Visteon's wireless Rear Seat Entertainment System designed to keep backseat passengers happy with DVD and VCR technology, wireless headphones and a Nintendo(R) 64 game system. The vehicle is also equipped with Visteon's Body Responsive Seats, which provide drivers and passengers with a custom fit for a healthier and more comfortable seating ecosystem. Visteon's Rear Seat Entertainment is currently available to consumers, while its ICES System will be available later this summer. "The Visteon technology on display at the Microsoft Home Project booth demonstrates our commitment to a high level of innovative breakthroughs for consumers," Delaney added. With a global delivery system of more than 125 technological, manufacturing, sales and service facilities located in 21 countries, Visteon is leveraging the talents of its 77,000 employees to deliver innovative, consumer-driven systems solutions to its customers.
