TIBCO and Visteon Automotive Systems to Offer Wireless Internet Access In Automobiles
TIBCO, Visteon, Microsoft and Intel Combine Forces for 'Mobile' Internet
                                  Solutions

LAS VEGAS, CONSUMER ELECTRONICS SHOW 2000, Jan. 6 -- Drivers
using Visteon Automotive Systems' in-car computing system will receive
on-demand email, news, stock and sports updates and local driving and
entertainment information via a real-time information infrastructure provided
by TIBCO Software . Visteon's ICES (Information, Communication,
Entertainment, Safety and Security) is being unveiled as an after market
product at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas
today. Available for the first time this summer, ICES provides drivers access
the Internet while in their vehicles, with the use of simple voice commands.
ICES delivers wireless information to the driver through a TIBCO software
infrastructure.
"TIBCO's Power of Now can help people get more out of their work and their
leisure wherever they happen to be," said Vivek Ranadive, TIBCO Software's
chairman and chief executive officer. "TIBCO delivers integrated,
personalized, real-time information wherever and whenever it's needed, from
Wall Street to global enterprises to e-business and, now, the open road."
TIBCO worked extensively with Visteon to develop and deliver an
information infrastructure, based on the TIB/Active Enterprise(R) suite, that
consumers could customize to meet their personal interests. Drivers can elect
to receive news, sports or stock updates, for example, with ICES and the TIBCO
information infrastructure. Powered by an Intel(R) Pentium Processor and built
on Microsoft's Windows CE operating system, Visteon's ICES can be seen for the
first time in a vehicle -- a Ford Windstar TekSport concept car -- on display
at the Visteon booth (Sands #18423).
"We are happy that TIBCO Software and Visteon have developed such a
powerful, mobile application that exploits the Windows CE for Automotive
operating system," said Dave Wright, director of business development for
Microsoft's Automotive Business Unit. "TIBCO and Visteon clearly share
Microsoft's vision for in-car computing devices, which provide people with the
information they need to be more productive and accessible while driving their
automobiles."
