GE Information Services Achieves Status as the First Registered and Subscribed Electronic Commerce Provider on the Automotive Network Exchange(R)
Improves Capabilities to Offer Electronic Commerce Services
                          To the Automotive Industry

GAITHERSBURG, Md., Jan. 5 -- GE Information Services (GE)
announced today the commercial availability of GE's VPN-Security ANX-TP, a
virtual private network (VPN) that enables users of the Automotive Network
eXchange(R)(ANX)(R) to utilize their existing ANX connection to access GE
Information Services' electronic commerce solutions. VPN-Security ANX-TP
eliminates the need for multiple network connections, provides seamless
communications between ANX and non-ANX trading partners, and enables secure
access to value added electronic commerce applications via the ANX network.
"As global manufacturers of highly engineered products that serve
industrial, vehicle, construction, commercial, aerospace and semiconductor
markets; the ANX is an important element in our supply chain," said Timothy F.
Brandt, program manager -- electronic commerce of Eaton Corporation. "GE
Information Services' VPN-Security ANX-TP has enabled us to save time and
money by utilizing the ANX more efficiently."
VPN-Security ANX-TP is a commercially available solution that provides
access from the ANX network to GE Information Services' comprehensive suite of
electronic commerce applications that address business challenges, such as ERP
integration and electronic data interchange (EDI) communication. By utilizing
GE Information Services' ANX connection, subscribers to the ANX network are
able to lower their network access costs by eliminating the fixed costs
associated with multiple dedicated lines, while improving supply chain
communication cycle time.
"As the owner and manager of the ANX network, we support GE Information
Services' involvement," said Peter Rosamilia, SAIC vice president and ANX
program manager. "By providing a link from the ANX network to GE Information
Services' electronic commerce applications, we are enabling our subscribers to
better utilize the ANX initiative to leverage their electronic commerce
investments."
"GE Information Services has enabled us to increase the speed and
frequency of communication with our suppliers," said Don Robinson, senior
systems analyst of Karmax Heavy Stamping. "Utilizing GE's ANX solution, we
now receive information from our EDI mailbox in seconds instead of minutes.
And, by eliminating long-distance charges for mailbox access, we are saving
money as well."
The ANX network provides automotive trading partners with a single, secure
network for electronic commerce and data transfer, replacing the complex,
redundant and costly multiple connections that currently exist throughout the
automotive supply chain. GE Information Services achieved the status of a
registered and subscribed trading partner on the ANX network in September
1999.
"Having long recognized the automotive industry's need for a secure,
standardized means of communication to exchange critical business information,
GE Information Services was an early supporter of the Automotive Network
eXchange initiative," said Guy Fisher, general manager of messaging services
for GE Information Services. "By offering VPN-Security ANX-TP, we enable our
customers to realize the dual benefits of communicating via the ANX network
and utilizing GE Information Services' value added applications for business-
critical needs."
