Nissan Posts 9 Percent Sales Increase for 1999
  - The Nissan Maxima Has an All-Time Record Year Surpassing 130,000 Units -

    CARSON, Calif., Jan. 4 -- Bolstered by continued strong truck
sales and growing popularity amongst its sedans, the Nissan Division of Nissan
North America, Inc. (NNA) posted 1999 calendar year sales of 604,575, an
8.4 percent increase versus calendar year 1998.  Nissan reported sales of
53,114 units for the month of December, an increase of 7.1 percent versus the
previous year.  Combined sales for both Nissan and Infiniti Divisions for the
calendar year totaled 677,212 units, up 9.0 percent versus last year.  The
following is a breakdown of December's sales results:

    -- Maxima sales for the month of December were 10,722 units.  Maxima had
       its best year ever with sales of 131,182 units in 1999, an increase of
       15.2 percent over the previous year.
    -- Total truck sales were up 31.2 percent versus 1998 with sales of
       26,442 units for the month.
    -- Fueled by the popular Crew Cab, Frontier sales grew 23.9 percent versus
       last year to 9,597 units.
    -- Xterra posted sales of 6,567 units and the Pathfinder followed with
       6,266 units sold.
    -- Nissan Quest sales totaled 4,012 units, up 1.6 percent over last year.
    -- Altima reported sales of 11,652 units, an increase of 4.4 percent.
       Sentra reported sales of 4,292 units.

    Calendar year 1999 has been filled with changes for Nissan, including the
launch of a series of exciting new products, increased sales, parent company
Nissan Motor Co., Ltd.'s (NML) alliance with Renault and the recent
announcement of Nissan's Global Revival Plan.  Nissan's sales momentum has
been fueled by strong consumer interest in new products such as the redesigned
2000 Nissan Maxima, 4-door Frontier Crew Cab pickup, face lifted Altima and
all-new Xterra sport utility vehicle.
    "We're not through by any means," said Jed Connelly, vice president and
general manager, Nissan Division, speaking of product development.  "We
launched some very successful products this past year and we have many more in
the pipeline, including the all-new 2000 Sentra and reengineered 2001
Pathfinder and Frontier truck," said Connelly.  "1999 was the year of the
consumer, creating a 17 million vehicle sales market in the U.S.  We were
successful in 1999 because we had the right products at the right time."
    Combined sales for Nissan and Infiniti Divisions for December totaled
60,915 units, up 7.6 percent versus last year.  Sales of Nissan Division's
North American-produced vehicles totaled 36,123 units for December, which
accounted for 68 percent of Nissan's total sales volume.

consumer and corporate financing, sales and marketing, distribution and
