Thurow to Speak at SAE 2000 World Congress Banquet
    WARRENDALE, Pa., Jan. 4 -- Noted economist, author and
commentator Lester C. Thurow will speak at the SAE 2000 World Congress Annual
Banquet at Cobo Center in Detroit, Michigan on March 9.
    Thurow's appearance will mark the culmination of the world's largest
automotive technical conference and exposition that runs March 6-9 and
features innovative technical accomplishments that will appear on passenger
cars in the early years of the coming millennium.
    A professor of management and economics at the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology, Thurow was a staff economist on President Lyndon Johnson's Council
of Economic Advisors.
    He is the author of such economic books as "Building Wealth," "The Zero-
Sum Society," "Head to Head," and "The Future of Capitalism," all New York
Times best sellers.
    Thurow appears regularly on "The Nightly Business Report" television
program.  He has served on the editorial board of The New York Times, as
contributing editor for Newsweek, and as a member of Time magazine's Board of
Economists.
