This vehicle combines style, comfort and fun-to-drive characteristics of a sport sedan with the packaging flexibility and enhanced seating position of a sport utility vehicle. As an example of how it accommodates active lifestyles, the interior of the SSS can carry two full-size mountain bikes standing up. Earlier "Geo-Mechanical" concept cars on display in Detroit include the SSU sport utility and the SST, which reached production as 2000 Eclipse sport coupe and the 2001 Eclipse Spyder convertible. The 2001 Spyder adds the bonus of a fully lined, power-operated convertible top to all the performance, styling and fun-to-drive benefits of the completely new 2000 Eclipse sport coupe is known for. Designed from the ground up as a convertible, the rigidity of the Eclipse Spyder has dramatically improved for the 2001 model. In addition to a standard 5-speed manual transmission, the Eclipse Spyder can be ordered with Sportronic(TM) automatic transmission with "manumatic" shifting and the available 3.0-liter, 24-valve V6 engine (GT version). It will be available in Mitsubishi Motors dealerships starting in March 2000. The full size 2001 Montero luxury sport utility features an all-new exterior and interior design, and is the only SUV in the U.S. market combining the following features in one package: monocoque construction for on- and off-road prowess; 4-wheel independent suspension; a rugged low-range 4WD system; and Mitsubishi's Sportronic(TM) five-speed automatic transmission system for "manumatic" shifting. The 2-time winner of the grueling Paris- Dakar Rally also has a flexible interior design to allow seven-passenger versatility. Montero goes on sale in early spring 2000.
