Exide Corporation Responds to Mississippi Lawsuit And Attorney General SubpoenaREADING, Pa., Dec. 22 -- Exide Corporation , the global leader in the lead-acid battery business, responded today to questions concerning a lawsuit filed in Mississippi alleging the company sold used automotive batteries as new. In addition, Exide received a subpoena from the Attorney General of Mississippi asking for records related to automotive battery sales in that state from 1990 until October 1, 1999. Management of Exide said that, while it is not possible to predict the outcome of the case or investigation with certainty, in light of its successful defense of similar actions in Alabama, as well as its experience with the Florida Attorney General, Exide believes that neither the case nor the subpoena will have a material adverse effect on the company's financial position. Further information on the company and its position on these issues is contained in the company's public filings, including the 10K and 10Q. Exide Corporation, with annual revenues of approximately $2.4 billion and operations in 19 countries, is the world's largest manufacturer of automotive and industrial lead-acid batteries.
