Sterling Commerce Introduces Service To Improve E-Business Reporting and Reconciliation
Browser-based Interface Increases Access to E-business Information

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Dec. 21 -- Sterling Commerce, Inc.
today announced a new consulting service that provides a Web interface for
improving the flow of E-business information across all company and customer
locations.
The interface bridges various E-business applications, giving key company
personnel access to critical information -- quickly and conveniently through
the use of the Web. The interface collects, monitors and delivers information
used in an E-business environment. Because the service is Web browser-based,
the data is retrievable from any company or customer location. Enabling easier
and wider access to information results in improved service, response and
support for employees, customers and other business partners.
The service gives customers a powerful tool to reconcile information from
all the various sources required to effectively enable E-business. It links
Sterling Commerce GENTRAN Business Process Integration family of products. It
can also be configured to collect and combine information from the Enterprise
Resource Planning (ERP) systems such as those from SAP, PeopleSoft, Oracle,
Baan and others. This flexibility provides an easy-to-use solution that
delivers end-to-end E-business monitoring, reporting and reconciliation.
The Web-enabled interface is customized to each company's specific E-
business needs. For example, the interface can be configured to allow the
administrator to manage document flow from the Web page, provide E-mail
notification to internal or external partners, and page the administrator in
event of an error.

Continental Teves Inc. Improves Customer Relationship Management
Sterling Commerce customer Continental Teves Inc., a world leader in the
design, development and supply of highly engineered brake and chassis systems,
has implemented the service to improve its speed of response to internal and
external customers.
When Continental Teves ships parts, they send out an electronic advance
ship notice to their customer as soon as the truck clears the docks. The
customer replies with an electronic acknowledgement to verify the ship notice
has been received.
"Sterling Commerce gave us the capability to monitor this information on
the Web, providing a quick, simple way for our shipping departments to
reconcile functional acknowledgements from all of our customers, without
printing paper or accessing another system," said Daryl E. Dellinger, manager
of material systems at Continental Teves.
"Without this information, we don't know whether our customers received
their advance ship notice, increasing our exposure to penalties that may be
applied if they did not receive the data and we don't know about it."
"Businesses are always looking for ways to improve information flow," said
Barbara Chapin, vice president global marketing for Sterling Commerce E-
sourcing Services. "This Web-enabled interface brings together information
from a variety of applications to provide our customers with an end-to-end E-
business monitoring and troubleshooting tool."
