Auto Designers Go California Dreamin' With Art Center Panel Discussion At L.A. Auto ShowNews Conference Schedule Announced LOS ANGELES, Dec. 20 -- A panel of the world's foremost automotive designers will gather at the 2000 Greater Los Angeles Auto Show to discuss the big questions -- What will the automobile of the future look like? What are their inspirations? Will California continue to play a leading role in influencing designs? The informative and lively session will be held Thursday, January 6 from 5 to 6 p.m. immediately after the first of two Media Days at the L.A. Auto Show. It is open to all registered journalists and industry executives. In a fitting complement to the auto show's California Dreamin' 2000 theme, the prestigious Southern California-based Art Center College of Design is assembling an impressive list of participants from among its graduates who have gone on to become top designers from major manufacturers. More than half the top automotive designers in the world today are graduates of Art Center. The panel discussion is part of Art Center's involvement at the L.A. Auto Show, which is highlighted by a custom-designed and multi-faceted exhibit that features more than 30 scale models, original drawings and design studies by graduating students. Included among the Art Center alumni who will be participating are: Doug Halbert Chief Designer, Honda R&D North America Geza Loczi Chief Designer, Volvo Cars of North America Tom Matano Executive Designer, Global Advanced Design Mazda Motor Corp. Shiro Nakamura Chief Designer, Nissan Motors Company Tom Tremont Chief of Advanced Design, DaimlerChrysler Pacifica Roger Zrimec Studio Director, Research & Design Center Mitsubishi Motors With more than 20 major automobile design studios, California is ground zero for affecting worldwide design trends.
