York International Selects HSB Registration Services; HSB Will Help York Integrate Global Quality Initiatives

    HARTFORD, Conn. and YORK, Pa.--Dec. 20, 1999--HSB Registration Services, a division of The Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company, will provide global engineering services to York International Corporation, helping to integrate that company's total quality initiatives worldwide.
    Under the contract, HSB Registration Services will apply its unique blend of technical, assessment and inspection capabilities as a management tool that York International will use to combine and strengthen its quality programs. The arrangement is the first in which a single company will provide all of York International's ISO (International Organization for Standardization) certification and other engineering services through the parent HSB in the United States and abroad.
    "York International has long had a strong focus on ISO 9000 and pressure vessel code quality systems," said Don Jasmann, York International division manager of quality assurance for the Engineered Systems Group. "But we had more than a dozen ISO registrars and several different code inspection agencies. The idea is that by integrating our quality systems, we can improve our performance."
    As supplier of choice for York International's ISO 9000 Rationalization Project, HSB Registration Services will act as ISO 9000 Registrar for 29 of the company's locations scattered around the world. HSB will be involved in Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) product certification through an external partner, and provide American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) code inspections.
