SURF Announces Significant Increase in Business RFQ's And Introduction of New Colored Crumb Rubber Products
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.--Dec. 16, 1999--American Surface Technologies International, Inc. (OTCBB:SURF) is pleased to announce a significant increase in "request for quotations" in Alberta, Canada as a result of that Provinces introduction of a new grant initiative to encourage the use of recycled waste tire products. As a result of this new program, Surf expects to more than double its sales in Alberta this fiscal year. This new initiative, by the Tire Recycling Management Association, is similar to many State grant programs whereby the State grants up to 50% of the surfacing cost of a project as long as a certain % of the surfacing uses rubber from that State's recycled waste tires. As announced in our previous news release of November 14, 1999, SURF has addressed this tremendous opportunity in the U.S. by the introduction of its SafeAire product that uses local State recycled tire rubber in its playground surfaces where grant money is an issue.
Following a successful sales trip to Hawaii, SURF is pleased to announce the first shipment of its product to that State. The unique nature of our product was solely responsible for SURF receiving this business, for a children's play area in a hospital. We anticipate significant follow-on sales as a result of this.
SURF is also pleased to announce the initial marketing of our proprietary colored rubber crumb, using crumb from recycled waste tires. The technology developed by SURF allows us to offer colored rubber crumb which will significantly reduce the cost of colored playground, track and walkway surfacing. Currently, the colored surfaces are obtained by using colored EPDM which is new synthetic rubber manufactured with the color added at the time of manufacture. With the introduction of our product, school boards, cities, municipalities and parks and recreation departments will have an alternative which will not only save them dollars but utilize recycled tires.
American Surface Technologies International, Inc. is the exclusive manufacturer and distributor of "SafetyPlay2 safety surfacing", and is a publicly traded company listed on the NASD OTC Bulletin Board under the trading symbol "SURF".
