(MMSA) is helping young men and women stay on track by supporting the Los Angeles Urban League's "Quick Start" auto technician training program. The first class of eight students proudly graduated this month, receiving job placement assistance at local Mitsubishi dealerships as well as scholarships from MMSA totaling $4,500. This scholarship money will be used toward the purchase of tools for their new trade. Mitsubishi Motors will also donate 13 vehicles that will be used for training purposes, announced Ellen Gleberman, MMSA senior vice president, legal, government relations and public affairs. Gleberman was the keynote speaker at the Urban League's Dec. 16 graduation ceremony. The LA Urban League's "Quick Start" program provides inner-city youths with entry-level training and job placement in the automotive service field at no cost. Students accepted into the 12-week customized Mitsubishi Motors program are taught electronic transmission fundamentals and diagnostic scanning tools usage. After the training, MMSA dealers take the program to the next level by hiring the graduates as entry-level technicians. "This training program is an excellent opportunity to help inner-city youths expand their marketable skills and become productive members of our community," Gleberman said. "The whole concept is very exciting. It's a win-win situation for everyone -- Mitsubishi Motors, the Urban League, the students, the community and our dealer partners," she added. Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America, Inc. was established in 1982 by Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, Tokyo, and markets a full line of vehicles, including coupes, convertibles, sedans and sport utility vehicles.
