Alliance Announces Addition of New StaffWASHINGTON, Dec. 15 -- The Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers today announced the arrival of several new staff at the association. "We now have filled several additional key positions at the Alliance, and this furthers our organization's ability to support our members in the areas of motor vehicle safety, advanced technology, environmental protection, consistent global regulations and market-based, cost-effective solutions," said Josephine S. Cooper, President, Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers. The 11 Alliance members are BMW, DaimlerChrysler, Fiat, Ford, General Motors, Isuzu, Mazda, Nissan, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Volvo. New staff members are listed below by department. Office of the General Counsel Anthony H. Anikeeff, Vice President & General Counsel. Mr. Anikeeff formerly served as Assistant Branch Director, United States Department of Justice, Civil Division, Commercial Litigation Branch where his law practice included contract, constitutional, statutory and regulatory claims, and international trade regulation. His previous work experience includes civil litigation and administrative law practice as an associate for Kilpatrick & Cody and law clerk to the Honorable D. Dortch Warriner, United States District Court, Richmond, VA. Mr. Anikeeff will lead the department, which also includes Julie Becker, Assistant General Counsel/Environment, and John T. Whatley, Assistant General Counsel. Environmental Affairs Ellen Shapiro, Director of Automotive Fuels. Ms. Shapiro previously served as Director, Automotive Fuels, for Information Resources, Inc. where she provided consulting and advocacy services for trade associations, coalitions, and chemical companies. Additionally, she served as Regulatory Liaison Manager at the American Automobile Manufacturers Association and policy analyst/engineer and law clerk at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Valerie Ughetta, Director of Stationary Sources. Ms. Ughetta formerly served as Senior Attorney in the Office of the General Counsel at the American Petroleum Institute where her worked focused on environmental and chemical regulatory matters. She previously was an Associate in the law firm of Carr, Jordan, Coyne and Savits, and law clerk to the late Honorable Catherine Kelly of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals. Greg Dana, Vice President of Environmental Affairs, leads the department, which also includes Robert Babik, Director of Environmental Programs and Steven Douglas, Director of Environmental Affairs. Safety and Harmonization Scott Schmidt, Manager, Vehicle Safety Regulations. Mr. Schmidt formerly served as Vehicle Safety & Legislation Function Leader, Land Rover North America, Inc. Before joining Land Rover, Mr. Schmidt's experience included work as a project manager for EA Engineering, Science and Technology, engineering team leader for VSE Corporation, and as an engineer for the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Van Wilber, Director, Safety & Harmonization, leads the department. Government Affairs Terry Bolger, Legislative Analyst, Government Affairs. Mr. Bolger previously served as a research analyst for Manning Selvage and Lee in Washington, D.C. Prior to joining Manning Selvage and Lee, Mr. Bolger served as a research analyst at Capitoline/MS&L and Hill and Knowlton Public Affairs Worldwide/The Government Research Corporation. Michael Stanton, Vice President of Government Affairs, leads the department. Communications and Public Affairs Lance Roberts, Manager, Communications. Mr. Roberts previously served as Manager, Fiber Recovery and Utilization at the American Forest & Paper Association where he oversaw paper recycling communications, promotional, and policy activities. His previous experience also includes public relations and promotional activities for Zurich Payroll Solutions, Ltd. and Hill & Knowlton Public Affairs Worldwide. Gloria Bergquist, Vice President of Communications and Public Affairs, leads the department. The Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers is a coalition of car and light truck manufacturers. It was formed in January 1999 and serves as a leading advocacy group for the automobile industry on public policy matters. Alliance member companies have approximately 600,000 employees in the United States, with more than 250 facilities in 35 states. Alliance members represent more than 90 percent of U.S. vehicle sales.
