Minority Supplier Group Names Delphi Automotive 'Corporation of the Year'DAYTON, Ohio, Dec. 13 -- The Dayton Minority Supplier Development Council has named Delphi Automotive Systems a 1999 "Corporation of the Year" for Delphi's efforts to help develop and grow a strong minority- owned supplier base. The award was presented to Delphi by the Council's Selection Committee Chairman Joseph Little. Under this program, Delphi has entered into major contracts for goods and services with minority-owned businesses." For the past four years, Delphi has sponsored the "Automotive Matchmaker," in Dayton to bring purchasing agents from major automotive suppliers together with minority business entrepreneurs specializing in the automotive industry. The event is generally recognized as one of the premier minority enterprise trade shows in the country and draws participants from as far as Arizona and Florida. In 1999, nearly 200 minority vendors exhibited their goods and services for 1,200 representatives from the automotive and related industries. "Receiving this award means a great deal to Delphi, because we believe that a strong minority supplier community is very important, said Ray C. Campbell, Delphi Vice-President, Purchasing. "Our long-term success depends on identifying and working with the best suppliers in the world, and it has become increasingly obvious over the years that many of those companies are minority-owned. We want to assure they have the opportunity to be part of the Delphi supplier team."
