SPX Corporation Elects Lewis M. Kling An Officer
    MUSKEGON, Mich., Dec. 13 -- SPX Corporation today
announced the election of Lewis M. Kling as an officer of the company.
    Mr. Kling, who is 54, adds the title of corporate officer to his current
position as leader of several of the company's communication and technology
systems businesses.  He joined SPX Corporation in October 1998 when SPX merged
with General Signal Corporation.  Mr. Kling joined General Signal in 1996 as
President of Dielectric Communications.  Previously he was Senior Vice
President of Allied Signal's Commercial Avionics Systems.  He also spent five
years with Harris Corporation as Vice President and General Manager of the
Electric Systems Division, and 24 years with General Electric.
    He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an MBA from Stetson University.
