Trinity Industries' Board of Directors Elects New Member

    DALLAS--Dec. 9, 1999--The board of directors of Trinity Industries Inc. today announced the election of Ronald J. Gafford, president of Austin Industries Inc., as its newest member of the board. Gafford's election increases the total number of directors to ten.
    Gafford, 50, has twenty-seven years of professional experience in the construction industry, including seven years in commercial and residential real estate development. He holds a degree in building construction from Texas A&M University and is an alumni of the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School. Gafford started his professional career in Dallas with the Henry C. Beck Company. In 1981, he joined the Trammell Crow Company in Atlanta, Georgia where he was a partner in several construction and development projects. Since 1987, he has been with Dallas-based Austin Industries, an employee-owned civil, commercial and industrial construction company. He was named president of Austin Industries in 1996.
    Gafford is active on a variety of national and local professional, charitable and civic boards. Trinity Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Timothy R. Wallace said, "Ron's extensive business experience and foresight will be of great benefit to our company."
