American Axle & Manufacturing Announces New Business With DaimlerChrysler
DETROIT, Dec. 9 -- American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings,
Inc. announced that it has been selected as the supplier of front
and rear axles for a DaimlerChrysler Dodge Ram full-size pick-up truck program
beginning model year 2003.
Volumes, including both front and rear axles, are expected to exceed
200,000 annually. Further details have not been disclosed.
This will be AAM's first opportunity to produce axles for DaimlerChrysler
for the North American market. AAM announced in August that it had been
awarded the new generation of rear axles for DaimlerChrysler's six-ton
Mercedes transporter van, model year 2001, for the European market. Both new
programs are incremental business for AAM.
"We are proud to have been selected for this business and look forward to
working with DaimlerChrysler," said AAM Chairman, CEO & President Richard E.
Dauch. "This opportunity will directly support AAM's goal of diversifying our
customer base." This new program will reduce AAM's percentage of sales to
General Motors from 85 percent currently to approximately 79 percent.
AAM is a world leader in the manufacture, engineering and design of
driveline systems, chassis systems and forged products for trucks, buses,
sport utility vehicles, and passenger cars. In addition to its 13 locations
in the United States (in Michigan, New York and Ohio), AAM also has offices
and facilities in Brazil, England, Germany, Japan, Mexico and Scotland.
