General Motors Selects Artesia Technologies' TEAMS 3.0 Digital Asset Management Solution To Extend Digital Brand Assets

    ROCKVILLE, Md.--Dec. 8, 1999--

TEAMS Delivers Enterprise-Wide Content Management Framework For Digital Media Library Applications at the World's Largest Automaker

Artesia Technologies, Inc. announced today an agreement with General Motors to implement its TEAMS(TM) 3.0 Digital Asset Management solution.
GM will utilize the TEAMS application to create a comprehensive digital archive for its existing communications and marketing collateral in order to implement an on-line enterprise-wide digital media library.
GM's Media Archives Group, which is a part of GM's Enterprise Activities Group, currently maintains a central library containing a comprehensive visual record of the development, production and promotion of GM products from the turn of the century to today.
However, increased demands on this extensive collection of over three million still images, two thousand motion picture films, ten thousand video masters, and over 250,000 digital files has created the need to enhance the system currently employed by GM.
"General Motors' media archiving process is constantly evolving to incorporate a number of technology driven innovations," said GM's Manager of Media Archives Tom Freiman.
"We believe it is critical to our long-term success that we have the ability to rapidly redeploy our existing brand content within all of these new delivery channels, and we're confident that TEAMS provides us with the ability to seize this opportunity."
Under Artesia Technologies' agreement with GM, the world's largest industrial organization will utilize TEAMS to create a centralized digital archive to facilitate the use of these invaluable assets on an enterprise-wide scale. Through this development, GM will enhance the reach and effectiveness of its communications and marketing efforts in a number of ways:

    - TEAMS will improve GM's ability to respond to new communications and marketing opportunities by facilitating rapid redeployment of existing media content.

    - TEAMS also offers extensive rights management capabilities, including digital object identifiers, universal asset identifiers and watermarking, to ensure that proper trademark and copyright protection is secured across all media.

    - Through the use of the TEAMS framework, GM can also extend its existing communication and marketing efforts across multiple media. As an example, a successful broadcast television ad can be quickly repositioned for use on the web.

    - TEAMS will strengthen GM's relationships with its existing trademark licensing partners by offering these organizations better access to more of GM's media content. Furthermore, the company will improve its ability to provide content for outside programs, such as television documentaries, that work to enrich the company's existing brands.

In addition, the archive will be used by the company's Brand Managers and Design Engineers to assess evolving brand themes, trends and competitive positioning in order to enhance GM's product development efforts.
"TEAMS increases the value of an organization's intellectual property by enabling it to leverage its existing assets for re-expression into new, value-enhanced products," said Artesia Technologies President and COO Scott Bowen.
"In the case of GM, they possess some of the most valuable brands in the world and they certainly understand the importance of protecting, enhancing, and re-purposing these assets within the digital economy. As GM has also been a pioneer in the adoption of new technologies, we are extremely honored that they have selected our TEAMS product for this important mission."
Artesia Technologies' TEAMS solution is a superior content management environment that enhances the power of a multidimensional database by providing a robust and infinitely scalable framework for importing, managing and re-expressing all forms of digital content including: audio, video, graphics, images, text, and documents.
Through the use of advanced metadata management capabilities, these digital assets can be organized, edited, linked, transformed, and repurposed for use in a wide variety of enterprise applications, including digital brand management, web and multi-channel publishing, enterprise portals, and other e-business applications.
