Bernie Cairns Named Materials Director for CTS Interconnect Systems, Glasgow, Scotland
ELKHART, Ind.--Dec. 7, 1999--Bernie Cairns has been named Materials Director for CTS' interconnect systems business, according to an announcement today by Ian Archer, Vice President and General Manager of CTS Corporation U.K., Ltd., Glasgow, Scotland. Cairns will have overall responsibility for evaluating the businesses' current material/procurement activities, developing the businesses' materials strategy and ensuring effective implementation of the strategy. The CTS interconnect systems business designs and manufactures custom press-fit backplane assemblies, printed circuit board assemblies and box level electronic finished goods for communications equipment and computer equipment customers throughout the world.Mr. Cairns brings over twenty years of supply management experience to CTS, following international career assignments in the Netherlands, USA, Ireland and the UK. He began his career at Burroughs, in 1975, as Purchasing Supervisor; and in 1979, accepted the position of Purchasing Manager with Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC). He progressed in increasingly important positions throughout his career at DEC including Group Manager, Electromechanical Commodities; Manager, Systems Division, Materials & Acquisitions; and Director, Corporate Systems Acquisition. When DEC merged with Compaq Computer in 1998, Cairns was named Planning and Procurement Manager, High Performance Systems Business, a position he held until joining CTS.
Mr. Cairns' notable accomplishments in procurement and materials management included leading multi-national procurement organizations in both Europe and the USA, driving global supply chain design and development utilizing electronic communications, and the strategic outsourcing of major product lines to alliance partners.
