BURLINGTON, Mass. and SEEVETAL, Germany--Dec. 6, 1999--MuTec, GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary of Standard MEMS Inc., USA, is investing approximately US $3,000,000 in new manufacturing facilities in Seevetal, Germany, to increase its development and production capabilities to meet its expanding demand for instrumentation and sensor products.Henrik Muller, founder and special advisor of MuTec, commented, "Our customers in the petrochemical, chemical and pharmaceutical industries are demanding our instruments, which are among the few that meet the new higher European standards for process control and safety systems. This has resulted in more than a 40% growth of our business during 1999, thus the need for our new facilities."
New for year 2000: The Triple SECURA 200, the safest manual sampling station in the world and the CONCY 2000, a concentration and density transmitter with ultrasonic technology.
Jurgen Becker, President of Standard MEMS, Inc. European Operations, commented, "We expect to expand our employment of engineers, manufacturing and customer support staff in Seevetal as our business continues to grow. We have a lead on our competition and we intend to maintain that lead by continuing our development of innovative new products."

About MuTec
MuTec is a measurement and control systems integration company. Its DuoTec(TM) hardware and WINSMART(TM) software products are designed to improve production efficiency and safety for the process control market. DuoTec(TM) "failsafe" bus technology requires lower installation expenditure than competitive systems and is fully scalable from just a few stand-alone sensors to fully integrated and networked systems. It is the first and only system in accordance to DIN 19250 AK4. The WINSMART(TM) software is generally acknowledged as the most user friendly means to manage complex systems of data acquisition sensors and control instruments.
The company was founded in 1970 and since then has participated in the automation of over 180 gas and chemical tankers and the established process control systems for over 1,000 factories. MuTec has performed services for such clients as DSM-Chemie, Huls-Degussa, Shell, DEA (formerly Texaco), Mobil Oil, Daimler Chrysler AG, Schering AG, Dow Chemical, Inc., Bayer AG, Hyundai, Volkswagen AG and others. MuTec products are tested in accordance with such national and international standards as CE, TUV, German Lloyd, RINA and others. MuTec is currently expanding its business in the Americas and Asia. About Standard MEMS, Inc.
Standard MEMS, Inc. offers its customers all the services needed to bring MicroElectroMechanical Systems devices, also known as MEMS, to market. This service includes Design, Wafer Fabrication, Packaging, Testing and System Integration.
MicroElectroMechanical Systems (MEMS) are microscopic size "machines" such as valves, pumps, switches and actuators. These devices are fabricated from silicon and other materials, using similar production methods employed by the semiconductor industry to create computer integrated circuits or "chips." Unlike computer "chips," MEMS "chips" perform mechanical or optical functions in addition to electrical functions and actually "move." Examples of MEMS devices include "bubble inkjet" computer printer heads, automotive air bag actuators, digital high resolution image projectors and pressure sensors.
Standard MEMS is headquartered in Burlington, Massachusetts and has development and manufacturing sites in Hauppauge, NY; San Bernardino, CA; Tijuana, Mexico; and Seevetal, Germany. More information about the company is available on the World Wide Web at http://www.stdmems.com
