TI Group Automotive Executive Named to VITEC BoardDETROIT, Dec. 2 -- D. James Davis, president of TI Group Automotive Systems-n elected to the board of directors of Detroit-based VITEC, according to VITEC President Robert A. Huebner. Located in the Clark Street Technology Park in Detroit's Empowerment Zone, VITEC is a minority-owned, tier-one supplier of fuel tanks and related systems to the automotive industry. Major customers include General Motors and DaimlerChrysler. Production of blow-molded plastic fuel tanks and other fuel-system products at VITEC's Clark Street facility began earlier in 1999. The company is a partnership between Greenwood Industries Inc. and TI Group plc. Davis joined the UK-based TI Group in 1997 as president of Bundy North America in Warren, MI. He was named to his current position in August, 1999. TI Group Automotive Systems was formed after TI Group's $570-million acquisition of Walbro Corporation earlier this year and combines the Walbro and Bundy organizations under a single banner. "Jim Davis brings a considerable amount of manufacturing and production expertise to our board," Huebner said. "TI Group is a $2.2-billion global supplier of automotive fluid handling systems with technology and financial resources that will help spark further growth for VITEC as well." Other members of the VITEC board include VITEC principals Dr. William F. Pickard and Dr. Lawrence D. Crawford. Drs. Crawford and Pickard each bring plastics manufacturing backgrounds, entrepreneurial spirit and business leadership capabilities to the VITEC partnership. Davis began his automotive career as a metallurgical engineer for Dayton Malleable in Ohio. He went on to hold senior management positions with Glacier-Vandervell, Inc., and Federal-Mogul prior to joining TI Group. A native of Ironton, Ohio, he has a bachelor's degree in metallurgy and materials science engineering from the University of Cincinnati.
