American Honda Sets November Record
TORRANCE, Calif., Dec. 1 -- Total American Honda sales set a
new November record of 78,143, up 2.2 percent from November '98 and topping
the previous record for the month set in 1990. Year-to-date American Honda
sales reached 987,721, up 6.7 percent from last year's record pace.
All-time record Odyssey minivan sales of 9,519, up 197.6 percent, paced
the march to the November record. The company also set new November records
for total truck, CR-V and Acura TL sales. Despite the records, however, there
was concern about the impact rising interest rates are having on the
automotive market.
"Even though we set a new November record, the pace of the market
definitely slowed during the month," said Dick Colliver, American Honda
executive vice president. "Rising interest rates are beginning to have an
impact on big ticket items such as housing and vehicle sales. It's making for
a very competitive marketplace."
Acura Division sales of 8,924 were up 4.2 percent for the month and are up
6.3 percent for the year to 107,972. Honda Division posted its 32nd
consecutive month of increased sales and was up 1.9 percent to 69,219 for the
month. Year-to-date Honda Division sales reached 879,749, up 6.8 percent from
last year.
