New Penn Announces Interactive Web Site
LEBANON, Pa.--Dec. 1, 1999--New Penn Motor Express, Inc., a subsidiary of Arnold Industries, Inc., announces its interactive web site. The web site address is www.newpenn.com.
New Penn's web site provides up-to-the-minute shipment status and transit time information. Customers can obtain freight charges, request documents and review a variety of shipment reports through the password-protected secure area of the site. The web site also provides information about New Penn's facilities, services and the latest news.
New Penn's industry-leading shipment tracking system connects the World Wide Web to on-board computers in the pickup and delivery trucks.
The status of a shipment changes in real-time from "Out-for-Delivery Today" to "Now Enroute to be Delivered" to "Now Being Delivered" to "Delivered," including the actual date and time. Customers may enter the pro, pickup label, bill of lading or purchase order number to get the current status of a shipment.
Online shipment reports are created from "live data" to get the most current and accurate information available. Customers use online shipping information such as freight charges and shipment status to prepare billing sooner or receive an early warning of a potential problem shipment.
The customer may also save their online reports to a spreadsheet for future analysis, or click on a particular pro number for additional shipment detail including PO number, freight terms, shipper, consignee, pieces, weight and origin and destination terminals.
The New Penn web site also allows customers to request proof of delivery (POD) and bill of lading documents. By entering the pro or pickup label number, the POD or bill of lading document is sent to the customer's fax machine of choice. Furthermore, a customer can access the gross charges, discount and net freight charges by using the pro or pickup label number.
New Penn's PC Shipment Rating System can be downloaded to a customer's personal computer from the web site. This allows a customer to rate shipments and create rate tables using New Penn's most current base rates.
"The site was designed as a customer service tool, and customers rate it highly for its ease of navigation, lack of clutter and functionality. The web site provides our customers with information to run their businesses more efficiently and improve their customer service. We have plans for additional applications based upon feedback from our customers," said New Penn Vice President of Marketing, Steven Ginter.
