Towers Perrin Launches Global Survey Examining Organizational Impact On Companies Embracing Internet
NEW YORK--December 1, 1999--A global Towers Perrin Internetworked Organization Survey has been launched to examine the human capital implications of e-Business change. Survey participation is available to large multinational companies that are receiving both a printed questionnaire and the opportunity to complete the survey on-line, as well as to dot-coms facing rapid organizational growth.Companies interested in participating on-line should contact iorg@towers.com and complete a survey questionnaire before December 15, 1999. Results will be available to participants in early February, 2000.
"Radical change is the order of the day," said Peter Bresler, leader of Towers Perrin's Organization Performance practice. "The change is being driven by the growing impact of network-based technologies on how business is conducted.
"Our preliminary hypothesis holds that best practice companies in the internetworked world take a holistic approach to driving performance," noted Bresler. "Beyond strategy and technology, leaders are optimizing their organizations and the people within to seize opportunity. The global research launched today seeks to validate this idea and uncover rich insights on how best to manage people and organizations in the digital future."
"It's not just about new markets and new channels," added Bresler. "It's also about developing new management and business processes to leverage the investments made in technology."
David Hensley, Towers Perrin's Organization Performance practice leader for Europe, noted that while many companies have paid a price in the drive to become a global internetworked business, companies moving too slowly will pay an even higher price. "Large companies with an ability to leverage off the Web at this point have a tremendous strategic advantage, but few yet have found a way to increase the pace of organizational change and speed of customer responsiveness to match the extreme velocity of technological innovation" said Hensley.
"CEOs understand the importance of their people as a key success factor. Yet in the stampede to go live on-line, both traditional and pure-play companies are putting their organizations and their people under tremendous pressure," added Hensley.
"As a result," he noted, "many of our clients are struggling to develop new business models while wrestling with how to manage the profound impact on people. We expect the Towers Perrin Internetworked Organization Survey to surface some of the challenges and perhaps even a few answers to some of the problems many of these leaders think they face alone."
