Toyota Reports Best-Ever November Sales - Eighth-Consecutive Monthly Sales RecordTORRANCE, Calif., Dec. 1 -- Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., today reported best-ever November sales of 120,430 vehicles, an increase of 11.3 percent over last November's record-setting pace and the eighth- consecutive record-breaking month. Calendar-year-to-date sales total 1,353,421, up 10.7 percent compared to the same period last year. "We figured sales would take a holiday in November. We figured wrong," said Jim Press, TMS executive vice president. "The industry still has plenty of stuffing -- and good reason to give thanks for a remarkable year." Both TMS sales divisions broke November sales marks set last year. The Toyota Division recorded best-ever November sales of 105,083 units, up 10.6 percent, and the best November since 1986. The Lexus Division not only posted best-ever November sales of 15,347, but also sold its one-millionth vehicle since entering the U.S. market in 1989. Total Toyota Division passenger car sales were up 10.0 percent for a best- ever November. The strong sales were due to the recent introduction of three all-new vehicles. The redesigned Avalon, launched last October, posted sales of 8,110, for an increase of 52.6 percent and a best-ever November. The seventh-generation Celica and the all-new ECHO subcompact sedan, also introduced in October, both recorded hearty November sales. Celica sales totaled 4,147, while ECHO numbers reached 3,792 for the month. Toyota Division light truck sales, up 11.6 percent to 39,701 units for a best-ever November, were led by the Sienna minivan which enjoyed best-ever November sales of 8,260 units, up 10.1 percent. Toyota Land Cruiser also posted best-ever November sales of 1,649, up 12.4 percent over November 1998, and the Tundra full-size pickup had a strong month, selling 6,689 units. The Lexus Division's record-breaking sales were lead by its popular RX 300 sport utility vehicle (SUV), which sold 6,933 units, up 52.2 percent, resulting in a best-ever November. LX 470 SUV sales rose 12.5 percent for the month while the GS 300 sedan posted a 33.6 percent jump in November sales, with 2,165 units sold. Sales of North American-built vehicles accounted for 60.6 percent of total November sales.
