Delphi Automotive Celebrates Indonesia Facility's Grand OpeningJAKARTA, Indonesia, Dec. 1 -- Officials from PT Delphi Automotive Systems Indonesia's manufacturing facility near here outlined the company's growth strategy at the plant's grand opening ceremony today. Delphi Indonesia is a wholly owned subsidiary of Delphi Automotive Systems , based in Troy, Mich., USA. Located in Lippo Cikarang, Bekasi, Indonesia, approximately 32 km (20 miles) east of Jakarta, Delphi Indonesia operates as a full-process, vehicle wire cutting and assembly facility, and supplies power and signal distribution systems products to automobile manufacturers and suppliers both domestically and abroad. Delphi Indonesia's total sales in 2000 are expected to grow to US $40 million, more than double its 1999 performance. "This plant has the flexibility to supply high-quality products built to North American, Japanese and European vehicle design standards competitively and at various volume levels, all in one facility," said Tom Sosnowchik, director, Delphi Packard Electric's Asia-Pacific Operations. "Through global teamwork, Delphi has incorporated many of the best manufacturing practices from its vast world-class operations. With strong product and process capabilities, coupled with a dedicated and intelligent workforce, Delphi is confident in the future prospects of its site here in Indonesia." Delphi Indonesia's name recently changed from PT Packard Kabelindo Murni Indonesia to reflect Delphi's 100 percent acquisition of its former joint venture with PT Kabelindo Murni. The new name also reflects Delphi's independence from its former parent, General Motors Corp. Delphi Indonesia supplies wiring harnesses domestically for General Motors Buana Indonesia's Opel Blazer, and exports various wiring products to Australia, Japan, Thailand and the United States. Export customers include: Isuzu, GM Thailand and GM North America. "Delphi's vision in Indonesia is to exceed its customers' expectations.
