Delphi Automotive Celebrates Indonesia Facility's Grand Opening
JAKARTA, Indonesia, Dec. 1 -- Officials from PT Delphi
Automotive Systems Indonesia's manufacturing facility near here outlined the
company's growth strategy at the plant's grand opening ceremony today. Delphi
Indonesia is a wholly owned subsidiary of Delphi Automotive Systems
, based in Troy, Mich., USA.
Located in Lippo Cikarang, Bekasi, Indonesia, approximately 32 km (20
miles) east of Jakarta, Delphi Indonesia operates as a full-process, vehicle
wire cutting and assembly facility, and supplies power and signal distribution
systems products to automobile manufacturers and suppliers both domestically
and abroad. Delphi Indonesia's total sales in 2000 are expected to grow to US
$40 million, more than double its 1999 performance.
"This plant has the flexibility to supply high-quality products built to
North American, Japanese and European vehicle design standards competitively
and at various volume levels, all in one facility," said Tom Sosnowchik,
director, Delphi Packard Electric's Asia-Pacific Operations. "Through global
teamwork, Delphi has incorporated many of the best manufacturing practices
from its vast world-class operations. With strong product and process
capabilities, coupled with a dedicated and intelligent workforce, Delphi is
confident in the future prospects of its site here in Indonesia."
Delphi Indonesia's name recently changed from PT Packard Kabelindo Murni
Indonesia to reflect Delphi's 100 percent acquisition of its former joint
venture with PT Kabelindo Murni. The new name also reflects Delphi's
independence from its former parent, General Motors Corp.
Delphi Indonesia supplies wiring harnesses domestically for General Motors
Buana Indonesia's Opel Blazer, and exports various wiring products to
Australia, Japan, Thailand and the United States. Export customers include:
Isuzu, GM Thailand and GM North America.
"Delphi's vision in Indonesia is to exceed its customers' expectations.
Focusing on customers is what has driven Delphi's success today, and is the
impetus for Delphi's growth strategy in Indonesia," said David Clary,
president and director, Delphi Indonesia.
Delphi Indonesia has 1,400 employees and is certified to all its
customers' global quality standards. The plant, which covers 14,000 square
meters, utilizes state-of-the-art cutting technology to generate up to 1
million cut leads, or terminated wires, daily. Delphi Indonesia also uses the
latest technology to ensure vehicle wiring quality from the harshest to the
most sensitive of automotive application environments.
Delphi Automotive Systems, with headquarters in Troy, Mich., USA, is a
world leader in automotive component and systems technology. Delphi's three
business sectors -- Dynamics & Propulsion; Safety, Thermal & Electrical
Architecture; and Electronics & Mobile Communications -- provide comprehensive
product solutions to complex customer needs. Delphi has approximately 201,000
employees and operates 168 wholly owned manufacturing sites, 51 customer
