First Car Sold In Los Angeles/Expanding Nationwide In December
CarMax, a subsidiary of Circuit City Stores, Inc., , has already auctioned off its first new car, a 1999 Dodge Durango Driftwood sport-utility vehicle, as part of a pilot program tested in the Los Angeles market. The new Durango, featured at the CarMax Dodge new-car store in Los Angeles, was showcased in a five-day eBay online auction. The buyer of the Durango saved $4,310 below the manufacturer's suggested retail price on the purchase. CarMax also will expand its new-car offerings on eBay in December. The cars will be provided from CarMax franchises throughout the U.S., including locations in the Atlanta; Chicago/Milwaukee; Dallas/Ft. Worth; and Los Angeles markets.
CarMax Extending No-Hassle Experience Through eBay

"Our no-hassle experience with no pricing games is perfect for the Internet shopping process. We're looking forward to extending this experience through eBay."

CarMax's no-hassle sales process of low, no-haggle prices on new cars has made its Norcross, Ga., auto superstore in the Atlanta market the nation's leading Chrysler-Plymouth (C-P) retailer in just three years. "CarMax's meteoric rise to the country's number one C-P auto retailer is a dramatic testament to consumers' strong desire to buy new cars the way we sell them," said Ligon.
