Hayes Lemmerz International to Expand Presence in Mexico

    NORTHVILLE, Mich. Nov. 30 -- Hayes Lemmerz International,
Inc. , one of the world's leading suppliers of wheels, brakes,
suspension, structural and other lightweight components to the automotive and
commercial highway markets, and its partner UNIK, S.A. de C.V., a subsidiary
of DESC, S.A. de C.V. , today announced that they will expand
capacity at their cast aluminum wheel plant in Chihuahua, Mexico.
    The $23 million expansion will be completed in 2001 and will result in an
increase in annual production from 300,000 to 1.2 million cast aluminum
wheels.
    "This additional capacity will provide Hayes Lemmerz with an opportunity
to meet expected demand for world class aluminum wheels, as we continue to
grow our market position in North America," said Ronald Kolakowski, president
of Hayes' North American Automotive Wheel Group.
    "Adding capacity in Mexico will further strengthen our efforts to serve
our global customers.  This expansion will bring the most advanced casting
technology to produce world-class quality products," said Emilio Mendoza,
Chief Executive Officer of UNIK, S.A. de C.V.
