AMA: Sears Point Doubleheaders Added to 2000 Racing Schedule
1 December 1999
PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) Pro Racing today announced that Sears Point Raceway has completed AMA-required course changes, and the addition of two doubleheader races for the 2000 Chevy Trucks U.S. Superbike Championship presented by Parts Unlimited. Sears Point Raceway, originally listed on the 2000 schedule pending AMA-approved course modifications, has completed those modifications, according to AMA Road Race Manager Ron Barrick. "The May 5-7, 2000 AMA Chevy Trucks Superbike Championship races at Sears Point Raceway are a go," Barrick said. "A significant amount of work was completed before our last race in April (1999), and we're very pleased with the latest course improvements. The track staff were very receptive to suggestions made by TRAC member Doug Chandler, and I think the whole process really benefited from Doug's insights." AMA Pro Racing also announced expanded agreements for the 2000 season with Road America, in Elkhart Lake, Wis. (June 9-11), and Mid-Ohio, in Lexington, Ohio (July 14-16), to broaden their race weekends to Superbike doubleheaders, much like the "Big Kahuna" races held at Road Atlanta since 1998. While separate points and purses will be paid for each race at the three doubleheaders now scheduled, an overall winner for each weekend will be declared. Final figures for the Road America and Mid-Ohio race purses have not been determined, but both tracks have committed to increasing their combined Superbike purses by at least $15,000. Road Atlanta race organizers have agreed to increase their combined Superbike race purse to at least $55,125. The AMA Pro Racing event tentatively scheduled for April 28-30 at Willow Springs Raceway has been canceled by the track ownership. AMA staff are currently in discussion with other facilities interested in hosting AMA Chevy Trucks Superbike Championship events during the 2000 season. 2000 AMA / CHEVY TRUCKS U. S.
