Intermet Receives Prestigious Award of Excellence for Aluminum Casting
TROY, Mich., Nov. 30 -- Intermet Corporation
today announced that the North American Die Casting Association (NADCA)
presented its 1999 International Die Casting Competition award to Intermet's
Tool Products die-casting operation in Minnesota. NADCA conferred the award,
which was for excellence in the category of aluminum under one pound, at its
annual Congress and Exposition in Cleveland, Ohio, held in early November
1999.
The winning component is an aluminum housing used as a 160-pin filter
connector for automotive engine control unit applications. The housing
provides interface for pin headers, ferrite beads, flex circuits and a gasket
seal for enclosure. The company produces 80,000 of these housings per week
using a high-pressure die cast system.
"We are very pleased with this award, since this part demonstrates our
expertise in producing highly engineered, complex castings," said Don Pyatt,
president of Tool Products. "It is an honor to be recognized by our peers for
our capability in aluminum, especially as it's applied to the automotive
industry. This award reinforces Intermet's position as a technology-driven
supplier of aluminum castings.
"It also emphasizes Intermet's strategy to be a full-service supplier of
cast components using any metal or process our customers require," Pyatt
continued. "We are also proud of the fact that the high-volume, dedicated
machining equipment used to make this connector housing was designed and built
in-house."
NADCA bestows awards annually to acknowledge technical excellence in
aluminum, zinc, and magnesium die castings in a variety of sizes. Judging is
based on ingenuity of casting; product design; overall quality; and
contribution to expanding the market for die castings. Intermet Tool
Products' award-winning connector housing, as well as other winning entries
from this year's competition, was displayed at the NADCA Congress and Expo.
Intermet's non-ferrous operations provide automotive components to vehicle
producers around the world. Using a variety of manufacturing technologies,
including lost foam, die casting, and squeeze casting, the group currently
produces components in aluminum and zinc. Intermet operates four non-ferrous
manufacturing facilities in North America.
With headquarters in Troy, Michigan, Intermet Corporation and its
subsidiaries are full-service suppliers to the automotive and industrial
equipment industries worldwide, providing precision iron and aluminum cast and
finished components. Intermet also manufactures cranes and specialty service
vehicles. The company has more than 7,000 employees at 19 locations in North
America and Europe. More information abos available on the
