Titan Comments on Des Moines Accident
QUINCY, Ill., Nov. 29 -- Maurice Taylor, Jr., president and
CEO of Titan International, Inc. expressed his condolences for the
family of truck driver Douglas Oswald, who was killed in an accident at
Titan's Des Moines tire plant. The tanker truck was delivering a solvent
chemical to the plant when it caught fire.
"We wish to express our thanks to the Des Moines fire and police
department for the speed and professionalism of their response," stated
Taylor. "I also want to recognize our employees who were on the scene for
their quick thinking in shutting off the valve on the truck and evacuating the
plant. Their actions undoubtedly prevented other injuries and saved the
plant."
The plant will lose approximately one week of production while repairs are
made to the outside receiving area for solvent, oils, and carbon black.
Production is scheduled to resume this week once repairs are completed.
The accident is under investigation by the proper authorities and Titan
will wait for the results of the investigation before commenting on specific
details of the accident.
"Mr. Oswald's death is a tragedy and our sympathy and prayers go out to
his family," stated Taylor.
