Truck Safety Group to Hold Benefit Reception in Tiburon
Consumer Rights Advocate Joan Claybrook to Speak

TIBURON, Calif., Nov. 24 -- As a kick-off to its
10th anniversary year of service in 2000, The CRASH Foundation, Citizens for
Reliable and Safe Highways (CRASH) is inviting interested Bay area residents
to a benefit reception set to take place on Sunday, December 5, 1999. The
hors d'oeuvres/no-host bar event will be held at Servino Restauranto,
9 Main St., in Tiburon, from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM. Special guest speaker will
be Joan Claybrook, President of Public Citizen -- the Ralph Nader-founded
consumer rights organization.
The purpose of the event is to promote greater awareness of truck safety
issues. Tickets are available for a tax deductible donation of $100 per
person. Proceeds will benefit CRASH's programs of victim support and truck
safety activism.
CRASH is the nation's leading consumer advocacy group devoted solely to
creating safer commercial trucking and providing compassionate service to
truck crash survivors and victim's families. Since CRASH's founding in San
Francisco in 1990, the nonprofit organization has grown to over 43,000 people
nationwide, with over 5,000 in California. "Along the way CRASH has developed
a strong collective voice that helps shape national public policy on crucial
transportation safety issues," said Michael J. Scippa, CRASH Executive
Director, "such as the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Improvement Act of 1999,
which passed through Congress by unanimous consent just last week."
In 1998, 5,374 people died and 127,000 more were injured in over
400,000 heavy truck crashes in the U.S. For more information about CRASH, and
