Delphi China Facility Wins Quality Award for Supply of Audi Wiring
CHANGCHUN, China, Nov. 18 -- Delphi Automotive Systems'
wiring division was among just four suppliers to receive First
Auto Works-Volkswagen's (FAW-VW) top quality award at a recent ceremony here.
Delphi Packard Electric Baicheng Ltd. earned FAW-VW's "excellent supplier"
award for meeting quality, delivery and responsiveness requirements for the
automaker's Audi A6 model passenger car production start-up. Delphi Packard
Electric Baicheng supplies wiring harnesses for the vehicle, which went into
production in September.
"This award demonstrates FAW-VW's confidence in Delphi Packard Electric
Baicheng's ability to develop new products jointly with our customers," said
Nancy Gougarty, managing director, Delphi Packard Electric China. "Delphi
worked directly with FAW-VW to develop world-class electrical systems for this
vehicle from the design process through the start-of-production."
FAW-VW is a joint venture between The First Automotive Factory of China
and Volkswagen AG of Germany. It produces the Volkswagen Jetta and the Audi
A6, which is the latest C-platform sedan developed by Audi AG of Germany. In
China, the Audi A6 has been revised as a slightly longer version suitable for
the Chinese market. Delphi's Baicheng plant here supplies wiring harnesses
for both vehicles.
"From an engineering standpoint, the China-built Audi A6 contained some
unique design challenges that Delphi, working together with FAW-VW, was able
to solve," said Tom Sosnowchik, director, Delphi Packard Electric Asia Pacific
operations. "Delphi's ability to respond to these challenges helped enable
the customer to successfully develop both the European and Chinese versions of
this vehicle simultaneously."
Last month, Delphi announced it had acquired 100-percent ownership in its
Baicheng operation. Prior to the announcement Delphi was a majority owner of
its joint venture with Baicheng Automobile Wiring Factory. Delphi Packard
Electric Baicheng consists of two manufacturing facilities in northern China
-- Changchun and Baicheng -- and was formed in 1994.
In addition to supplying wiring harnesses for FAW-VW, Delphi Packard
Electric Baicheng manufactures automotive cable for Delphi's China facilities,
Delphi's Indonesia facility and for HaFei, a leading minivan manufacturer in
China. It also produces ignition cable for Mitsubishi and Fuji Heavy Industry
in Japan.
Delphi Automotive Systems, with headquarters in Troy, Mich., USA, is a
world leader in automotive component and systems technology. Delphi's three

Architecture; and Electronics & Mobile Communications -- provide comprehensive
product solutions to complex customer needs. Delphi has approximately 201,000
