Visteon Wins Technology Award at SAE Congress in Brazil
SAO PAULO, Brazil, Nov. 17 -- Visteon Automotive Systems has
won a technology award for doing what it does best -- delivering leading-edge
systems driven by consumer insights.
The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Brazil recently named Visteon as
a winner of the annual "Technologic Prominence" award at the VIII
International Mobile Technology Exposition/Congress, held in Sao Paulo,
Brazil. The Exposition was the largest event for the automotive engineering
community in Latin America, and was attended by about 3,500 members of the
automotive industry, including suppliers and OEMs.
SAE Brazil members, who selected the award winners, chose Visteon for
outstanding use of technology from among 60 nominees. The awards recognized
companies that demonstrate their commitment to technology through exceptional
leadership, technical innovation and personal motivation. In winning the
award, Visteon was cited for "outstanding use of future technological
innovations."
"This award is an important acknowledgment of the technological value we
bring to our customers," said Visteon President Craig Muhlhauser. "We're
pleased that SAE members in Brazil agree that Visteon is defining the future
of innovative technologies in the automotive industry."
At the Exposition, Visteon showcased many of its most dynamic
technologies, including a vehicle equipped with Visteon's Voice Technology,
which allows drivers to set controls by voice commands, without having to take
their hands off the steering wheel and eyes off the road. Voice Technology
also can be used in conjunction with a vehicle's on-board navigation system.
Future applications include an in-vehicle Web browser that will allow drivers
to verbally seek and receive weather and road conditions or stock reports.
Visteon Voice Technology responds to six languages including English, French,
German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish, including multiple dialects and
accents.
Visteon's idea of "Smart Fun" - the Rear Seat Entertainment System - also
was demonstrated at the show. The system features a mobile unit comprised of
a 6.4-inch rear-facing flip-up LCD screen, video cassette player and video
game plug and play system that will keep kids entertained in the backseat
while mom and dad drive. The unit is contained in an OEM-grade center
console, withstands the harsh environment found in vehicles, and closes up
completely to deter theft.
Visteon also displayed the next generation in vehicle lighting. Visteon's
fiber optic laser technology adds a scintillating sparkle to rear-end and
center high mounted lamps while shrinking light assemblies down from over four
to just one-half inches wide. The tail lamps are made of transparent plastic
and take on the vehicle body color when they are off. Visteon's Faceted
Projector High Intensity Discharge headlamps provide better glare control and
offers drivers up to 250 percent more light on the road compared with halogen
light sources.
"Being a worldwide leader in systems integration and leading-edge
technology is part of Visteon's global vision," said President Visteon South
America, Helio Contador. "This award confirms our unparalleled technologies
and systems as we drive to capture new customers and new markets around the
world."
With a global delivery system of more than 125 technological,
manufacturing, sales and service facilities located in 21 countries, Visteon
is leveraging the talents of its 77,000 employees to deliver innovative,
consumer-driven systems solutions to its customers.
