Gas Price Leveling Off Prior to Thanksgiving, AAA Survey Shows
ORLANDO, Fla.--Nov. 16, 1999--Gasoline prices eased 1.1 cents lower in the last month, the first decline after four months of rising prices, according to AAA.AAA's monthly Fuel Gauge Report shows self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $1.282 per gallon nationwide, the same price recorded in September. In October, the nationwide average price reached its highest point of the year, $1.293 per gallon.
Gas prices are up 22.8 cents per gallon since last November, when the average fuel price was $1.055.
Self-serve mid-grade averages $1.372 per gallon, down 1 cent from October. Self-serve premium averages $1.438, down .03 cent in one month.
Self-serve regular unleaded gasoline is most expensive in the West at $1.398 per gallon, down 1.7 cents from last month. It is least expensive in the Southeast at $1.196, also down 1.7 cents from the previous month. One year ago the average price of self-serve regular unleaded in the West was $1.192. In the Southeast, the average price was 98.3 cents a year ago.
Other regional prices for self-serve regular unleaded are: New England, $1.334 per gallon, .07 cents lower than last month and 26.3 cents higher than a year ago; Mid-Atlantic, $1.273, down .09 cents since last month and up 22.7 cents from last year; Great Lakes, $1.248, down 1.1 cents from last month and 22.3 cents above last year; Midwest, $1.213 down 2.2 cents from October and 20.7 cents higher than a year ago; and Southwest, $1.234, 1.5 cents lower than last month and 23.3 cents above last year.
The national average prices for self-serve regular unleaded gasoline for the last six months were: October, $1.293 per gallon; September, $1.282; August, $1.255; July, $1.174; June, $1.142; May, $1.157.
The national average prices for November in the last five years were: 1998, $1.055 per gallon; 1997, $1.234; 1996, $1.277; 1995, $1.123; 1994, $1.165.
