Five Motor Racing Icons Nominated For Shav Glick Award

Carlsbad, Calif., November 17, 1999 --- Nominees for the first annual Shav Glick Award, given for distinguished achievement in motor racing by a Californian, were announced by Eagle One, a leading marketer of premium automotive appearance care products. Motor racing icons nominated include Dan Gurney, driver, car builder and owner; Rick Mears, four-time Indy 500 winner; Kenny Roberts, world champion motorcycle rider and owner; Wally Parks, founder of the National Hot Rod Association; and the late J.C. Agajanian, car owner and racing promoter. The award, which honors the esteemed motor sports editor of the Los Angeles Times, will be presented at the NASCAR NAPA Auto Parts 500, April 30, at California Speedway in Fontana. Judges are Mike Harris, Associated Press; Bill Center, San Diego Union; Jim Short, Riverside Press-Enterprise; John Zimmermann, editor of Racer magazine; Doug Stokes, Irwindale Speedway; and Mary-Ellen Wright-Rana, Laguna Seca Raceway.
