Porsche Cars North America to Relocate Parts Distribution Center; Two Centers to be Opened on East and West CoastsATLANTA, Nov. 15 -- Porsche Cars North America Inc. (PCNA), the exclusive importer of Porsche cars and parts for the United States and Canada, today announced the relocation of its Reno, Nev., National Parts Distribution Center to sites in Atlanta, Ga., and Ontario, Calif. The move is part of an effort to ensure improved parts service to its customers. "Of the top 20 markets in the U.S., 10 are east of the Mississippi and five are west of the Rocky Mountains," said Frederick J. Schwab, president and CEO of PCNA. "We need to serve those markets by distributing parts to the dealers, by truck, either the same day or the day after they are ordered. The only possible way to accomplish this is to distribute parts from locations on both coasts," "Porsche and its dealers have grown dramatically in the past few years," said Robert Snodgrass, CEO of Brumos Porsche of Jacksonville, Fla., and member of the PCNA Board of Regents, a steering committee made up of dealer principals and PCNA management. "The decision to expand its parts distribution locations will allow us to improve relationships with our customers, the Porsche owners. This is important with the advent of the new Porsche sport utility vehicle in 2002, which will dramatically increase PCNA's volume." In addition to improving distribution, the move to the East Coast will reduce inbound freight costs from Europe. In opening the two new distribution centers, PCNA also plans to outsource the physical distribution operations, thereby further improving its competitiveness. The new Ontario facility will require approximately 50,000 square feet of space and will open next fall. The Atlanta facility will require approximately 100,000 square feet of space and will open next summer. Sites are under consideration in the two locations. The official closing of the Reno facility will take place in the fall of 2000. Some employees will be asked to relocate to the new facilities. Forty-eight employees are affected by the relocation.
